About the Program
Nu Deco Ensemble returns to The Citadel to launch their 11th season with a bold celebration of music's legendary trailblazers. Following the release of their Grateful Dead Suite (October 3rd), Nu Deco will perform the piece alongside a suite inspired by Talking Heads' fusion of funk, art-rock, and new wave, brought to life with the ensemble's signature genre-defying flair. Also on the program: Bernstein's iconic blend of Broadway and film in On the Town, Nu Deco's creative original Via Ascenscio, and Valgeir Sigurðsson's Past Tundra—a cinematic work evoking the sparse landscapes and atmospheric beauty of Iceland. Set against striking visuals, this concert is the ultimate launch into a bold new chapter!
Nu Deco Ensemble
Since its inception in 2015, Nu Deco Ensemble has exploded onto Miami's eclectic musical scene captivating audiences, holistically engaging with its community, and fusing innovative, genre-bending orchestral performances and collaborations with the highest levels of musical artistry. Called a “chamber orchestra for the 21st century” by The New York Times, their performances have featured artists including Wyclef Jean, Allen Stone, Macy Gray, Monsieur Periné, Jacob Collier, and Ben Folds; reimagined orchestral suites of the music of Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, The Beatles, and Aretha Franklin; symphonic masterworks from Bernstein, Stravinsky and Gershwin; and new music from some of today's most exciting living composers.
