Cuban-born flutist Dr. Ernesto Fernandez earned a degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Performance with an emphasis in Music Business from the University of Miami Frost School of Music.

Ernesto Fernandez’s album titled PA’LANTE was nominated for a Latin GRAMMY in 2020 for Best Traditional Tropical Album. Various world-renowned guest artists from the classical and Latin music industry collaborated on this project, available on all digital platforms. Ernesto has also collaborated in multiple GRAMMY-nominated and Latin GRAMMY-nominated projects since 2014.

In 2020 Ernesto was the headline act at the annual Florida Flute Convention where he performed the Gala Concert and taught a flute masterclass to high school students.
Ernesto Fernandez is endorsed by Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments, Inc. and served as the Jazz Competitions Coordinator for the National Flute Association for five years. A regular clinician and performer at state and national flute conventions, Ernesto premiered his danzón Nuestra Vida at the National Flute Convention in Salt Lake City in 2019.

A versatile musician skilled in both classical and Latin genres, Ernesto Fernandez has performed in Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Nicaragua, as well as in Toronto, Cleveland, New York, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City. In 2017 Ernesto was the featured artist at the prestigious Galway Flute Festival in Weggis, Switzerland. He also taught private jazz lessons to classical flute legend Sir James Galway.

Dr. Ernesto Fernandez maintains a balanced musical career as a performing/recording artist and educator. He is a Faculty Fellow in the Honors College at Florida International University. He currently resides in Miami, FL where he maintains an active role as a performing and recording artist while guiding and developing the artistic, intellectual, and professional growth of his students.
