Taylor Shea is a Miami-based violist from Billings, Montana. He has appeared as principal violist of the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, Penn State Philharmonic, New Jersey Sinfonietta, and Eastman Philharmonia. He has had the privilege of performing under the batons of Gerard Schwarz, Barbara Hannigan, John Adams, and Marin Alsop. In 2021, he was a winner of the Penn State Concerto Competition.Â
Taylor has studied chamber music with members of the Juilliard String Quartet, Timothy Eddy, and Robert Levin. He has also attended Juilliard’s annual ChamberFest, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Tanglewood Institute String Quartet Workshop. He has performed in master classes for Cynthia Phelps, Jonathan Vinocour, Roger Tapping, and David Harding; as well as members of the Danish, Mivos, Muir, Ying, and Carpe Diem String Quartets. During his time at Juilliard, Taylor held a Gluck Community Service Fellowship and shared chamber music with communities in youth shelters, hospices, retirement communities, and hospitals.Â
Taylor’s primary studies were with Carol Rodland and Timothy Deighton. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School, as well as a Master of Music degree and a Professional Performer’s Certificate from Penn State University.
