Matthew Peralta is a third-year Bass Fellow at the New World Symphony. His recent orchestral concerts involve performing with the Seattle Symphony, Kansas City Symphony and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra as a diversity fellow. Mr. Peralta received an Honorable Mention in the 2022 Sphinx SOPA Excerpt Competition, as well as Most Outstanding Instrumentalist.Â
As a senior in high school, Matthew was accepted to the New York Youth Symphony where he had his first of many Carnegie Hall performances. He later studied under the tutelage of Professor Timothy Cobb at Purchase College where, in his senior year, he participated in the Doublestop Foundation competition and became a 2018 Ambassador for the Foundation. In addition to gaining the Ambassador title, Matthew brought home the prize of a Jacob Schmidbauer ¾ double bass made in the late 1800s. After his final year at Purchase, he went on to receive his master’s degree at the Yale School of Music, where he studied with Professor Donald Palma.Â
Matthew has attended festivals such as Roundtop and the International Summer Academy in Vienna, where he studied with prestigious teachers such as James VanDemark, Josef Niederhammer and Jiri Hudec. He currently plays on a 2000 Kolstein Carcassi model double bass.
