Leo Luna

DOUBLE BASS

Leo Luna was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. He started to study music at the age of 10 and graduated as a double bass player from Amadeo Roldán Conservatory of Music. He also played and recorded with Spanish singer Olga Cerpa along with the Amadeo Roldan’s Jazz Band the album “Vereda Tropical”, which was nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards. Then, he traveled to Germany and attended magistral lessons with John Goldsby (double bass at WDR big band). When Leo returned to Havana to resumed his studies, was part of the Classical Music Festival Contest sponsored by Lynn University of Music from Boca Ratón at Florida and won the first place. Then, was called to be part of The Havana Lyceum’s Orchestra, playing alongside with great musicians from The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra like Jonathan Kelly, Wenzel Fuchs, Stefan Schweigert and Sarah Willis, with whom he recorded two albums: “Mozart” & “Mambo 2 and 3” and several songs from her project Sarahbanda. He also recorded and played with great musicians like Manolito Simonet’s band, Ernan López Nussa (piano), Enrique Plá (former percussionist of Irakere) Maykel Blanco (piano), William Roblejo (violin), Zule Guerra (singer), Roberto García (Trumpet), José María Vitier (piano), Niurka González (Flute/Clarinet), Dagoberto Gonzalez (violin), Harold Lopez-Nussa (piano), Ruy Adrian López-Nussa (drums). Mayquel Gonzalez (trumpet), Dayron Ortiz (guitar), among others. Currently Leo is living in Miami, Florida and is playing with great local musicians like Camilo Pérez (piano), David Torrens (singer/songwriter), Michel Fragoso (piano), Yarelis Gandul (singer/congas), Nicolle Garcia (Latin-jazz singer) and Jesus Pupo(piano).
