Dr. Kendra Hawley (DMA) has performed internationally as an oboe and english horn soloist, chamber musician, orchestral, opera, theater, and popular fusion musician. Her wide array of musical experiences along with her passion for empowering students through creative play, problem solving, social emotional learning, and gamified practice informs her educational programming for students of all ages and abilities. Her teaching philosophy is centered around building self-confidence through radical acceptance and inclusion, and recognizing each student’s strengths and potential for growth while creating a fun and effervescent environment for learning.
Kendra is also a dedicated community organizer, having served in several different leadership roles with the American Federation of Musicians. Through her work with the AFM, Kendra has cultivated a deep interest in helping folks recognize their value, find their voice, and collaborate creatively to maintain a healthy and sustainable way of life for professional musicians.
As a member of Miamibloco, Kendra aka “ VP KeKe” plays the tamborim and brings her rainbow flare and light-hearted playfulness to the community from the Bateria Saideira performances, to the Community and Kids workshops. She’ll share her light so yours will burn more brightly!
