Matthew Nichols

Matthew is excited to be returning for his third season with Nu Deco! Before his time in South Florida he was a prominent music educator and performer in the Greater Richmond area of Virginia, teaching secondary education in Hanover County, and performing with ensembles such as the Richmond Symphony, Virginia Wind Symphony, and Richmond Philharmonic. Since moving to Florida, he has had the opportunity to perform with local organizations such as the South Florida Symphony, Miami Symphony, and the Florida Grand Opera. In addition to classical styles, Matthew enjoys performing jazz, rock, and pop music on a wide variety of instruments in the percussion family. He also serves as the Director of Percussion Studies at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, helping inspire the next generation of upcoming musicians. If he’s not playing music, you might find him baking fresh bread or creating glass art.
